Honeymoon Day 8: Mayan ruins & Snorkeling

Day 8: Travis and I were up very early to spend the day on a snorkeling adventure. We were able to snorkel in three different locations around Playa del Carmen. But first, we were able to make a quick stop at the Mayan Ruins in Tulum.

After a tour around the Mayan ruins we were on our way to our first snorkeling site a covered cenote...a.k.a A CAVE! Yes, all I could think about was what was swimming under me, bats, getting stuck in a crevice and the movie Sanctum. You know what I am talking about if you have seen it. I was definitely out of my element, but jump in anyways (literally). There were some interesting moments where we had to swim alone because the space was so tight and when we needed light because it was so dark. But I made it and definitely overcame yet another fear. Not to mention, my husband, Travis was so good and was always holding my hand.

Isn't that just scary to look at?!

The next location was the ocean! Now we are talking. This was much more my style. The water was warm, it was open and we were able to swim with sea turtles! At this stop we spent about an hour out in water and saw an octopus, lobster, a sting ray, and lots of fish. I really enjoyed this part of the day.

Our final stop was a brackish (both fresh and salt water) natural aqaurium. That is what gives the water the weird texture, like oil and water mixing. Here we found some HUGE and interesting fish.  It was the perfect end to a very fun and adventurous day!
