August 3rd, 2013 was the 5th Annual Hannan Family Reunion. It has become a day that I have anticipate and look forward to every year. The idea of the reunion was born one cold February day when I was studying biochemistry in the Rochester University Library. I was homesick, exhausted, completely and utterly confused. The only thing that got me through the rest of the semester was the thought of spending time with family in the hot August sun by the St. Lawrence River. So it was then that I started planning this family get together.
The days activities are kicked off after a mimosa toast and the annual passing out of the shirts. The t-shirt idea was born with all of the cousins receiving their number from the birth order. After the original 15, new husbands and wives and children are added on now making the final number now 24! Any significant others that accompany a family member and have not yet been lucky enough to enter the family are given a t-shirt also, however, the back reads 00. The rest of the day is open to fun, games, conversation, swimming and boating. But there are several events that have become tradition such as the wiffleball game as well as the family bonfire complete with Mimp's homemade popcorn.
While this year was a bit cooler than others, our traditions carried on.
