Milestones & Countdowns (how to survive long distance)

It's no surprise that Travis and I live for vacations (as well as most normal human beings.) We live for an extended weekend, heck even just a regular two day weekend. What has made PA school bearable for us has been the use of milestones and countdowns. Maybe it is just me but I couldn't and still can't fathom looking ahead 28 months in the future to graduation. I just can't quite see it. Even at 8 months out now, I still am just beginning to see the flicker of light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, what really worked for me was setting smaller more attainable goals. Once we pass one milestone, it is time to make another. This keeps me pretty busy. Seriously, you should see all of the countdowns I have going on my computer.

What my current goals look like:

"1 day until our weekend in Boston together."

"Two more weeks until our next long weekend."

We have also come to realize it is fun to plan little adventures or trips for us to do, even if it is just a two day weekend. Currently, we are both looking forward to Columbus Day weekend when we will be heading up to Lake Placid in the Adirondacks for a little mountain getaway. So in my free time from school I like to research new hikes, places to eat, and things to do. It definitely keeps my mind off the distance and keeps me looking forward to the future. Pretty soon we will be running out of milestones. Won't that be the day!

Do other people do this? Or do you have any other tips or advice? If you do, I am all ears! So with that here are a few more pictures from our latest adventure - a whole week together in Cape Cod!
